Two men jailed in Kano for killing resident over woman

Two men, Nura Sabiu, and Dahiru Ubale, have been sentenced to life imprisonment and a five-year jail term, respectively, by the Kano State High Court, for killing a resident during a fight over a woman.

The prosecution argued that on April 17, 2017, the two defendants engaged in physical combat over the woman, identified as Zahrau Sabiu, and in the process fatally wounded the victim, Abba Ismail.

Ubale was said to have used a catapult to injure Ismail while Sabiu fatally stabbed him.

During the trial, witnesses, including an eyewitness and the investigating police officer, provided evidence to support the prosecution’s case, while the defendants denied their involvement in the crime.

After carefully examining and considering the evidence presented by both sides, Justice Usman Naabba found the first defendant guilty of culpable homicide and sentenced him to life imprisonment.

The second defendant was, however, found guilty of causing grievous hurt and received a five-year prison sentence.

Although the court did not find sufficient evidence to establish the offence of criminal conspiracy, the defendants were, however, held accountable for their actions, resulting in death and injury.

Justice Naabba commended the prosecuting counsel, Lamido Abba, and the defence counsel, Umar Danbaito, for their dedication and professionalism while the proceedings lasted.
