Uba Sani performs groundbreaking for reconstruction of Zaria mosque

Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has performed the groundbreaking for the reconstruction of the iconic Mallam Abdulkarim Juma’at Mosque at the Emir of Zazzau’s palace in Zaria city.

Dateline Nigeria reports that part of the 188-year-old mosque had collapsed in August 2023, leading to the death of some worshippers.

The governor disclosed the groundbreaking ceremony in a statement he posted on his Facebook page on Sunday.

“I was joined by the Honourable Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, Ph.D, former Governor of Kaduna State, Alh. Ramalan Yero, the Emir of Zazzau, His Royal Highness, Amb. Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, the Honorable Minister of Environment, Mal. Balarabe Abbas Lawal and a host of other personalities at the historic event.

“I seized the opportunity to thank our Royal Father, the Emir of Zazzau, His Highness, Amb. Ahmad Nuhu Bamalli for his inspirational leadership. Since that tragic incident in August 2023 when Mallam Abdulkarim Mosque caved in, leading to the death of some worshippers, our Royal Father has been working round the clock to ensure that a befitting edifice is erected here. Today therefore marks the beginning of the journey of restoration.

“I wish to also express my profound gratitude to individuals and corporate organizations that made contributions to the rebuilding of this great Mosque. My appreciation to my brother and friend, Alh. Abdulsamad Rabiu (Chairman, BUA Group) who has taken a large chunk of the needed financial burden through his ASR Africa organization,” he said.
