British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on Wednesday congratulated Nigeria’s new president-elect, Bola Tinubu, on his victory in the February 25 election.
“The UK-Nigeria relationship remains strong. I look forward to working together to grow our security and trade ties, opening up opportunities for businesses and creating prosperity in both our countries,” Sunak said on Twitter.
Dateline Nigeria reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has since presented the Certificate of Return to Tinubu and his running mate and president-elect and vice president-elect.
However, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party Atiku Abubakar and his Labour Party counterpart Peter Obi have rejected the results of the election and demanded for fresh exercise.
