Borno State Police Command said it has arrested eight suspects in connection with the killing of Dr. Abdulkadir Kamal, a senior lecturer with the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID).
Dr. Kamal, a lecturer of the Department of Physical and Health Education, was reportedly stabbed to death in his office at the university on Sunday.
Spokesman of Borno State Police Command, ASP Daso Kenneth, confirmed the arrest to journalists on Monday in Maiduguri.
He said upon receiving the details of the incident, their men swung into action immediately and arrested eight suspects in connection with the murder.
He said,” The command has received a distress call on the murder of Dr. Kamal, it was confirmed that he was murdered in his office and his car got stolen by the killers.
“Eight people were so far arrested and they are undergoing investigation to unravel those behind the act.”
The PPRO also called for calm, adding that the police command was on top of the situation.
A counter-insurgency expert and security analyst in the Lake Chad, Zagazola Makama, first reported the incident in a post on his X handle.
Makama said the victim was found dead with several injuries inflicted on his body by his killers, who also made away with his vehicle and other valuables.
“His hands were peeled off when he tried to stop the attackers from stabbing him. They also used a hammer to smash his head and his spinal cord, killing him instantly,” Makama posted.
