University of Abuja names Prof Aisha Sani Maikudi acting VC

Born on 31st January 1983, Professor Aisha Sani Maikudi is the current Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics) of the university

The Senate of the University of Abuja has elected Professor Aisha Sani Maikudi as the Acting Vice Chancellor of the institution pending the inauguration of the University Council and the appointment of a substantive Vice-Chancellor.

This followed the end of the tenure of Professor AbdulRasheed Na’Allah as the 6th Vice Chancellor of the University of Abuja (UniAbuja) on June 30, 2024.

The outgoing VC said Maikudi’s appointment was in a temporary capacity, pending the ratification by the Governing Council.

Prom Maikudi thanked members of the Senate for the confidence reposed in her, saying “I want to extend my deepest respect and appreciation to you all for the strong support and unwavering commitment that you have accorded me.”

Aisha is a Professor of International Law and the current Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics) of the university, a position she was appointed to in May 2023.

Born on 31st January 1983, she obtained her LLB from the University of Reading in 2004 and LLM from the London School of Economics & Political Science in 2005, and later bagged a PhD in International Law in 2015 from the University of Abuja.

Maikudi joined the service of the University of Abuja on 4th September 2008 as Lecturer II rising to the rank of professor in 2022.

A professor of International Law, Maikudi became the first female Deputy Dean, Faculty of Law, in 2018, and later the pioneer director, University of Abuja International Centre in 2019.

She is also the youngest professor of Law in Nigeria and the only female professor from the Northwest.

Maikudi has attended several National and International conferences in the UK, US, South Africa, Germany, Italy, and Egypt.

She is a member of several professional bodies including the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Nigerian Law Teachers Association (NLTA), and International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA).
