- Says his lack of transparency, due lrocess responsible for Iree Poly unrest
The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has condemned the lackadaisical attitude of Governor Ademola Adeleke over the last weekend’s flooding of Ikire in Irewole Local Government Council Area of the state where property and items worth several millions of naira were destroyed and washed away.
This is even as the party also accused him of precipitating the Osun Polytechnic, Iree unrest by insisting that an Ede person who lost at the election and who is the least qualified must be the Deputy Rector of Osun Polytechnic, Iree.
It would be recalled that Ikire was thrown into confusion last Saturday’s morning through Sunday morning when the community was flooded through a torrential rainfall which subsequently led to the sweeping away of some roads, bridges, houses, household items and vehicles of various brands.
It was observed that neither Governor Adeleke, nor the Senator representing the Osun-West Senatorial District who also hails from Ikire, Senator Lere Oyewumi, have deemed it fit to make an on-the-spot assessment of the natural disaster since Saturday.
The Osun State APC chairman, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal, in a statement issued by the party’s Director of Media and Information, Chief Kola Olabisi, in Osogbo today observed that it was lack of empathy and flagrant exhibition of administrative ineptitude on the part of Governor Adeleke and his political co-travellers that could have prompted them not to show a deserving interest in the Ikire flooding.
Lawal also said that even when the poor handling of the Ikire matter by the government was yet to settle, the governor by himself precipitated another civil unrest in Osun today, owing largely to his lack of transparency and due process in administering the affairs of the state.
On Ikire, the state APC chairman wondered if Adeleke would have abandoned the Ikire people during their travail if it were to be during an election season when he would have fraudulently sought for their votes.
The state APC chairman described the Adeleke administration as being adept in the use of deceit to dubiously harvest unsuspecting voters when it is pungently clear that the head of the government is not endowed with sufficient attributes needed to run a purposeful government.
He explained that he wasn’t surprised at the lukewarm attitude of Adeleke to governance as the governor hardly spends weekends in the state with his Hallelujah men and women who usually fly in a chartered flight from one party to the other frolicking with women of easy virtue admist gulping of expensive champagne.
Lawal stated that Governor Adeleke observes weekends as periods to gain his freedom from the perpetual refuge of his sister who has turned the governor into a dependant who has to be quartered in the three-bedroom boys’ quarters of her apartment eight months after the governor’s administration kicked off.
The state APC chairman disclosed that he was moved to tears when he sighted Adeleke and some of his co-travellers with the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, the Right Honourable Adewale Egbedun, dancing inside an aircraft, wining and dining on their way to a party in Lagos during the weekend when the Ikire people were agonising over the effects of the flood that ravaged their community.
In Lawal’s words: “It is disheartening, unthinkable, disgusting and demoralising to see that the current state actors are mere adventurists and political jobbers whose main interest is how to enrich their pockets and loot the state treasury to its foundation.
“Look at the Osun Polytechnic, Iree issue, the institution was shut down today following students’ and lecturers’ unrest.
“A master’s degree older from Ede, the hometown of the governor, who lost an election to be made a Deputy Rector was catapulted to the position of acting rector in flagrant disregard to the extant rules guiding the operations of the institution.
“I am imploring the genuine Osun State stakeholders not to look away from the unsavoury situations of Adeleke’s governmental activities in the state as we don’t have another state that we can call our own”, he stated.
