Yusuf Maitama Sule varsity appoints Prof Mukhtar Kurawa new VC

The Governing Council of Yusuf Maitama Sule University, Kano has approved the appointment of Prof. Mukhtar Atiku Kurawa as the new Vice-Chancellor.

In a letter of appointment dated October, 16th, 2020 and signed by the university Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Prof. Muhammed Yahuza Bello, the appointment takes effect from today.

”In the exercise of the powers conferred on it by section 4 of the second schedule to the Yusuf Maitama Sule University Law 2012 (as amended) at its meeting held on 2nd October 2020, considered the submission from the Selection Board and hereby approved your appointment as the substantive Vice-Chancellor of the university,” the letter read.

According to the letter, the appointment is for 5 years.

Kurawa was born August 28, 1970, at Kurawa quarters, Kano Municipal Local Government Area, Kano State.

He obtained a PhD in Inorganic Chemistry at the Prestigious University of Bristol, the United Kingdom in 2005 and he became a professor in 2015. He was appointed Rector, Kano State Polytechnic in 2016.

Prof. Kurawa is a member of various professional bodies and currently a member of the tenth (10th) Governing Board of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
