Zamfara State government has described the recent report by Sahara Reporters an online news medium against Zamfara State government as figment of imagination and deliberate action of mischief which is capable of causing breakdown of law and order in the state
Zamfara State Commissioner for Information and Culture Sulaiman Tunau Anka who declared this via a letter of rejoinder said the issues raises are mere concoction which characterized an act of armed chair journalism which further confirmed the suspicion people have about the integrity of Sahara Reporters as a medium.
He said though it’s not part of the habit of the administration of Bello Matawalle to join issues with media organizations especially those whose credibility is not in doubt but noted that the extent at which Sahara reporters has gone calls for harder reply in order to protect the imagery and reputation of the state government and indeed Zamfara people.
He described as laughable and an act of childishness for medium like Sahara reporters to alleged that Zamfara State government has procured and disbursed Hilux vehicles and millions of money as compensation to repentant bandits.
Tunau further added, though the essence of the publication by Sahara reporters was to tarnish the image and hard-earned reputation of the Governor noting that, the entire Nigerian people are well-informed that, the Governor has done perfectly well to make Zamfara secured noting that such mischievous attempt by Sahara reporters would not deter the Governor from securing the people.
The Commissioner added that Governor Matawalle is known as a good Democrat who believes in following the tenant of democracy noting that Governor Matawalle’s doors are always open and ready to absorb criticisms that are constructive and aimed at improving good governance in the state.
He also expressed as shocking how Sahara reporters went ahead to publish a malicious story against Zamfara State government without contacting either the Governor or any of his media aids before going to the press.
Tunau also added that, though armed banditry has been inherited from the previous administration of former Governor Yari at the inception of the current administration the Governor invested heavily in procuring over 200 operational vehicles and also spent millions of naira to support the conventional operations of the security agencies with the sole aim of restoring peace.
He concluded that, for any serious minded Zamfara person who read the publication of Sahara Reporters will be convinced that, the editor and indeed his editorial team are not familiar with the political terrain of Zamfara and as such the state government is welcoming the medium o Zamfara State if it wants to verify some of the information that requires clarification.
