23 traders feared dead in Kebbi boat accident

About 23 passengers are feared deat in a boat accident in Yauri, Kebbi State on Monday.

A statement by the Kebbi State government said the boat lwas conveying 30 traders and their goods took-off from Kasabo village in Niger State on Monday to Yauri town for commercial activities.

It said 23 passengers might have drowned, while seven have been rescued.

Dateline Nigeria learnt that the corpse of a mother and her baby’s were among those recovered after the chairman of Yauri local government Hon Bala Muhammad Gagga visited the scene and ordered for a search and recovery mission.

Meanwhile, the Kebbi State Government has condoled with members of the immediate families of the victims, Yauri Emirate Council, Yauri Local Government Area over the boat mishap involving 30 traders.

Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris spoke in a condolence message signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Alhaji Ahmed Idris and made available to journalists in Birnin Kebbi on Monday.

Gov. Idris appealed to the affected families to accept the will of God in good faith and prayed to Almighty Allah to grant the deceased persons Jannatul Firdaus.

“I want to urge you to see what happened as the will of Almighty Allah that nobody can question, therefore, accept it in good faith. We should also continue to pray to Allah to forgive their shortcomings and grant them Jannatul Firdaus,” he prayed.

The governor prayed for quick recovery of those who sustained injuries during the ugly development and prayed to Almighty God to put an end to the recurrence of such accidents.
