National Museum, artists to commemorate Conjoined Twins Day

The National Museum in partnership with the L’Extinction Art Organisation is commemorating the 2025 World Conjoined Twins Day with a display of rarities.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the commemoration is a two-day event which began on Monday in Lagos.

The exhibition opened at the National Museum Lagos, comprising twins of different ages who merged together, holding acquirable conjoined plantains, fused carrots and joined thorn carving.

Through rarity object the exhibitors highlight conjoined twins theme aimed at creating increased healthcare awareness for twin children with disabilities.

In her opening address, Ms Kehinde Olapeju, the founder of L’Extinction Art Organisation and the Ondo State Goodwill Ambassador For Environment, noted that the United Nations General Assembly officially designated every November 24 annually as the World Conjoined Twins Day with 2025 as its second commemoration.

According to her, the art exhibition is titled: “Conjoined Rarities” and with the vision to create a platform for medical treatment for twins with disabilities.

“I and my twin sister as well as all twins present at commemoration, are joining ourselves together physically as canvasses for this art of conjoined rarities.

“We identify physically with twins born with disabilities and with the exhibition of conjoined plantains, carrots and thorn carvings, we further explore the theme of the World Conjoined Twins Day.

“We are exhibiting courage and compassion while calling for stronger global support for children with disabilities.

“The exhibition will continue to be a platform to support twins children with disabilities,” Olapeju said.

On her part, Ms Eyinju Alabi, the curator of the exhibition, appreciated the efforts of the National Museum Lagos for the exhibition opening amidst the renovation exercise within the museum.

Alabi said the exhibition would be held at the National Galleries across Nigeria and globally.

She said the original conceptual artwork comprised the merged twin sisters.

“It is priceless but art collectors will be able to collect the exclusive prints versions and the conjoined plantains, carrots and thorn carving for humanity,” she said. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
