Police, JAMB bust UTME exam fraud syndicate in Delta, arrest four

The Nigeria Police Force, working with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), has uncovered and disrupted a sophisticated examination malpractice syndicate during the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) at the College of Education, Warri.

The operation followed intelligence-led investigations into attempts by criminal elements to compromise the exam through technology-assisted fraud and unauthorized remote access to candidates’ computer systems while the test was ongoing.

Acting on digital forensic leads, police operatives carried out coordinated raids that led to the arrest of four suspects directly linked to the crime. The suspects are currently in custody and assisting with ongoing investigations.

JAMB has also identified additional examination centres suspected of similar illegal activities. As a result, the Board has withdrawn results from the affected centres pending the conclusion of investigations. Affected candidates will be rescheduled for the mop-up examination in accordance with established procedures.

The Police warned candidates, examination centre operators, and criminal collaborators to desist from examination malpractice, cyber-assisted fraud, or unauthorized system intrusion.

“The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to identifying, dismantling, and prosecuting criminal networks seeking to undermine the credibility of Nigeria’s educational system,” said Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid.
