Former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy Professor Isa Ali Pantami has emerged as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2027 election in Gombe State.
Pantami was declared as the PDP governorship candidate through voice vote at a stakeholders meeting in Gombe on Tuesday.
The former minister had earlier declared his intention to run for governor on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) but withdrew from the contest after Jamilu Isyaku Gwamna emerged as the party’s consensus candidate.
Pantami reportedly reached out to Gombe PDP leaders aligned with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike to seek the gubernatorial ticket, a request which was granted.
Dateline Nigeria reports that the gathering was attended by Senator Ibrahim Dankwambo, who is also a former governor of Gombe State.
Some PDP governorship aspirants had earlier rejected what they described as a plan to hand over the party’s ticket to Pantami.
