Kano police arrest 187 suspected thugs, drug dealers, recover 270 weapons

The Kano State Police Command has arrested 187 suspects and recovered 270 dangerous weapons during a three-day statewide operation aimed at dismantling criminal networks and disrupting drug supply chains across the state.

Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, announced the results on Monday, June 8, 2026, during a press briefing at Bompai Police Headquarters.

He said the coordinated clearance operation ran from Friday, June 5 to Sunday, June 7, 2026, and covered all 44 Local Government Areas of the state.

According to CP Bakori, the operation targeted identified black spots, criminal hideouts, and drug distribution points based on credible intelligence and community reports, in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu.

The Commissioner said those arrested include suspected thugs, drug peddlers, and persons found in possession of offensive weapons. All suspects are undergoing investigation and will be prosecuted where evidence warrants.

Items recovered during the operation include: 270 dangerous weapons such as knives, cutlasses, clubs, and other implements used to perpetrate violence; illicit drugs – a substantial quantity of suspected Cannabis Sativa, Exol tablets, and the lethal local mixture known as “Suck and Die”.

“The seizures directly reduce the capacity of criminal groups to harm law-abiding citizens and destabilize communities,” CP Bakori stated.

The Commissioner attributed the success to two key Command initiatives. Operation Kukan Kura, he said, remains active statewide and has enhanced visibility policing while reducing response time to distress calls.

The newly launched Violent Crime Response Unit, VCRU, has also sharpened tactical response to armed violence and gang activity through improved intelligence and rapid deployment.

“As I stated on assumption of duty, no form of criminality will be entertained in Kano State,” CP Bakori declared. He added that available data and community feedback indicate crime is reducing across several areas due to sustained operational pressure, better intelligence flow, and professionalism among officers.

CP Bakori appreciated the Kano State Government for its support and commended residents for their vigilance and willingness to share information. He urged the public to continue reporting suspicious movements to the nearest police formation or through emergency lines, assuring that all information will be treated confidentially.

The Commissioner warned that Kano is no longer safe for those profiting from violence and illicit drugs. “The 187 suspects in custody will face due process. The Command will maintain sustained pressure through raids, intelligence operations, and prosecution until criminality becomes untenable,” he said.

CP Bakori concluded that Operation Kukan Kura will continue, the VCRU will be further strengthened, and community engagement will be deepened to sustain the downward trend in crime.
