The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested a personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, for allegedly firing sporadically in a market in Kubwa, Abuja.
The suspect was identified as Onoja Samuel, a Deputy Superintendent of Corps with the NSCDC.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the FCT Command, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday, October 28, 2026.
According to the statement, at about 1:50 p.m. on October 25, 2026, a distress call was received at Kubwa Police Division reporting that an unidentified man armed with a pistol was firing sporadically into the air at a market in Kubwa.
Upon receipt of the report, police operatives attached to Kubwa Division were promptly deployed to the scene, where the suspect was disarmed and arrested.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect had gone to the market armed with a pistol following reports that some traders had assaulted his wife. During an ensuing argument with the traders, he fired several shots into the air.
Adeh said a CZ pistol and 17 rounds of live 9mm ammunition were recovered from the suspect, who is currently in police custody and will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, has urged operatives of sister security agencies to exercise restraint and to notify police divisions responsible for areas where they intend to conduct sanctioned operations within the FCT, to ensure proper coordination and prevent avoidable clashes.
