The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has handed over 69 bags of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA.
The handover was done on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, by the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi.
In a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Josephine Adeh, on October 28, the exhibits were recovered on September 27, 2025, during coordinated operations conducted by the Command’s Anti-Narcotics Unit.
Adeh said the exhibits remained in police custody while extensive investigations were conducted, leading to the recovery of additional bags of suspected cannabis.
She said following the conclusion of investigative processes by the police, the exhibits were formally handed over to the NDLEA for further investigation and possible prosecution in line with its statutory mandate.
Speaking during the handover, CP Sanusi reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to strengthening cooperation, intelligence sharing and mutual support among security agencies to disrupt criminal networks and bring offenders to justice.
He urged residents to continue providing credible and timely information to the police and other relevant security agencies to support efforts to combat drug-related offences.
The Command assured residents of its resolve to work with sister security agencies towards building a safer FCT and a society free from illicit drugs.
