The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested five suspects over armed robbery and three others for allegedly vandalising electric cables.
Police spokesman DSP Mohammed Ahmed Wakil said this in a statement over the weekend in Bauchi.
He said the police made the arrest after receiving information that one Bello Abdullahi Ibrahim aka Dogo, a 23-year-old habitual armed robber, Sam’ana Idris, 40, and Nuhu Ahmadu, 76.
He said the trio had criminally conspired among themselves, armed with cutlasses, stick and touch lamp, where they blocked Katsinawa road and attacked one Idris Shua’ibu ‘m’ of Katsinawa village Tafawa Balewa L.G.A, Bauchi State and robbed him of his Jincheng AX 100 motorcycle valued at N80,000 and a bag of raw unprocessed rice valued at N14,000.
He added that the first suspect Dogo had criminally conspired with one Musa and Mohammadu, now at large, went to the same road with intent to commit armed robbery, and in the process they encountered a join team of police and vigilante group attached to Katsinawa police out-station.
Wakil said efforts have been intensified to arrest the fleeing suspects. He added that investigation is on-going after which suspects will be charged to court for prosecution.
He said already the police jad recovered exhibits from the suspects that include Jincheng AX100 motorcycle, stick and black face mask.
The PPRO also said one Ibrahim Janar ‘m’ of Yelwan Gikar Gigyera ward Alkaleri L.G.A, on his way to Yelwan Gikar from burga village in between Yelwan Gikar and Mundamiyo villages, was attacked and robbed him of his boxer motorcycle with reg. no. NSW 301 QL.”
He said on receipt of the report, a team of detectives moved to the scene, the hoodlums were chased which led to the arrest of one Abubakar Jibrin ‘m’ aged 30yrs and Sama’ila Salisu ‘m’ aged 30yrs both of the same address in connection of the act.
One locally-made revolver gun was recovered from the scene, while further investigation led to the arrest of one Mugal Iliya AKA (Lari) ‘m’ aged 35yrs, who is suspected to have supplied the gun to the aforementioned suspects.
Wakil said effort is on top gear to arrest the remaining suspects at large, while police have recovered One Boxer motorcycle and the gun.
Meanwhile, a join patrol between police and vigilante group in Gamawa Division arrested three suspects at Wabu forest Udubo district Gamawa L.G.A, namely; Abdullahi Bello ‘m’ aged 40yrs of Gamawa L.G.A, Abdullahi Usman ‘m’ aged 30yrs of Potiskum Yobe State and Abubakar Abdulkarim ‘m’ aged 32yrs of Potiskum Yobe State.
They were arrested at Kesa village via Gamawa L.G.A in possession of 22 rolls of electric high tension cables valued N2.3 million.
Wakil said “when interrogated, the suspects confessed to the crime and added that since May 2020 they had vandalised the electric cables in Bulawudo and Kesa village in Gamawa L.G.A Bauchi State about five times.
He said exhibits recovered from them include 22 rolls of electric wire, one hack saw, two pin installation, and one motor vehicle Golf.
The PPRO said investigation is on-going on all the cases after which the suspects will be charged to court for prosecution.
He said the Commissioner of Police Bauchi State Command CP Lawan Tanko Jimeta, directed all suspects to be profiled and charged to court.
He assured law-abiding citizens in the state of the force’s renewed and unwavering commitment to their safety and security, especially “as we approach the yuletide period.”
