Bauchi South APC primary: Aspirant, ex-women leader allege irregularities, demand justice

Hon. Abdulmumin Muhammad Kundak, an aspirant for the Bauchi South Senatorial District seat under the All Progressives Congress (APC), has called on the party’s national leadership to investigate the conduct of the primary election, saying no valid exercise took place in the district.

Addressing journalists in Bauchi, Kundak said there was no evidence that a primary was held anywhere in Bauchi South.

“You are all living witnesses. Where was the election conducted? Can anybody show any ward or polling unit where the exercise took place?” he asked.

He described the process as a “so-called primary,” alleging that due process was not followed and that the exercise was hijacked by some individuals within the party.

“That is why I am holding this press conference, so that the APC leadership can investigate and find out what really happened in Bauchi,” he said.

Kundak noted that although some persons had already announced their candidacies, the party leadership still had a responsibility to verify that the process complied with APC guidelines. He said he joined the race after calls from stakeholders and party members but was disappointed by the outcome.

“I expected an elaborate and transparent process, but it has been hijacked by some people,” he stated.

He expressed optimism about the APC’s prospects ahead of the 2027 elections, saying the crisis was an internal matter that could be resolved.

“These are in-house problems, and once we resolve them, the APC will succeed in 2027,” he added.

Separately, Hajiya Sa’adatu Mamuda, former APC Bauchi State Women Leader, urged the party leadership to be fair and just to Hajiya Badi’atu Inuwa Siyama, the only female aspirant for the Bauchi Federal Constituency House of Representatives seat.

Speaking at a press conference in Bauchi, Mamuda said the party had announced that primaries for House of Representatives aspirants would hold that day, and hundreds of women turned out early to vote for Badi’atu.

“From 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., we did not see any electoral officials or materials in any of the polling units we visited,” she said.

She listed the affected areas as Makama Sarkin Baki, Bakari Dukku, Yamrat Dandango, Liman Katagum, and Birshi Miri.

Mamuda appealed to the national, state, and local leadership of the party to intervene and ensure fairness to all aspirants. She said that even if the party opted for consensus, Badi’atu should be given the ticket in the interest of justice, compassion, and fairness as the sole female aspirant.
