Coalition urges PRP to pick female deputy governorship candidate

From Ahmad Saka, Bauchi

The Bauchi Women Coalition for Women’s Inclusion, Equity and Good Governance has appealed to the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) to pick a female deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 election in Bauchi State.

The coalition made the appeal in a statement distributed to reporters in Bauchi and signed by its Director of Media and Communication, Hajiya Hajara Musa.

According to the statement, the group appealed to the PRP governorship candidate, Senator Shehu Buba Umar, to support the call, noting that women and youth constitute the majority of voters.

“The coalition believes that women’s inclusion in leadership strengthens governance, promotes social development, and ensures that the voices of women, children, youth, and vulnerable groups are adequately represented in government,” the statement read.

The group said choosing a woman as deputy governorship candidate would make a positive impact on the party and serve as a good strategy to win the hearts of the majority of voters.

The coalition reaffirmed its commitment to promoting women’s political participation by declaring support for the emergence of a qualified woman as Deputy Governor of Bauchi State in the 2027 elections.

“In line with this commitment, the coalition expresses its support for the governorship aspiration of Senator Shehu Buba and calls on all political stakeholders to consider selecting a competent and experienced woman as his running mate. The coalition maintains that such a decision would reflect the principles of inclusion, equity, and good governance while harnessing the wealth of experience and leadership capacity that Bauchi women have to offer,” the statement added.

The Bauchi Women Coalition said it remains committed to peaceful democratic engagement and will continue to advocate for greater participation of women in decision-making at all levels.
