The Northern Regional Police Command has arrested two Nigerian nationals in connection with the murder of a 36-year-old Nigerian man, Nkemujika Uzorchuku Eze, whose body was found in his residence at Sanzirigu, Tamale, on Saturday, 11th July 2026.
The suspects have been identified as Daniel Victor Eze and David Oko Ewa.
According to a statement from the Regional PR Unit, preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased lived in a three-bedroom apartment at Sanzirigu with his wife, Peace Uzorchuku, the two suspects, and another Nigerian national, Godwin Nwafor.
Police said they received a report that the deceased was found lying motionless in a pool of blood in his bedroom. At the scene, investigators found that he had sustained a deep cut wound to the forehead and had a towel stuffed in his mouth. The room had also been ransacked.
During the crime scene examination, officers recovered a wooden pestle suspected to have been used in the attack, along with other items for forensic examination. The body was conveyed to Tamale Teaching Hospital, where a medical officer confirmed him dead before it was deposited at the hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
Through intelligence-led operations, police intercepted and arrested the two suspects at Tatale on the same day while they were allegedly attempting to flee into Togo through the Tatale route. They were later handed over to the Tamale District CID to assist with investigations.
During interrogation, the suspects allegedly admitted to conspiring to murder the deceased, claiming he had been withholding proceeds from internet fraud activities they had engaged in together.
A subsequent search led to the recovery of several items suspected to have been stolen from the deceased’s room. These include multiple mobile phones, laptop computers, a tablet, jewellery, clothing, wristwatches, personal documents, and other valuables. Police said all recovered items have been retained as exhibits.
The suspects remain in police custody and are expected to be arraigned before court on Monday, 13th July 2026, to facilitate ongoing investigations.
The Northern Regional Police Command said it remains committed to ensuring all persons involved are brought to justice and urged the public to continue providing credible information to help fight crime.
