Kano govt accuses NSA Ribadu of plot to reinstate Bayero as emir

The Kano State Government has accused the National Security Adviser (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu of giving an order for the reinstatement of the dethroned Emir of Kano Aminu Ado Bayero.

Bayero was sacked on Thursday along with four other emirs installed by the Abdullahi Ganduje administration.

The Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam, made the allegations while speaking with newsmen at the palace of Emir of Kano early Saturday morning.

He said: “The National Security Adviser (NSA) has given two aircraft to bring back the former emir and take him to the palace. We have no idea as to what they mean by this,” Abdussalam said.

Dateline Nigeria reports that there is uncertainty in Kano after the dethroned emir Aminu Ado Bayero returned to the state early Saturday morning and went straight to the emir’s palace in Nassarawa, while the reinstated emir Muhammadu Sanusi II is at the main palace, known as Gidan Rumfa.

Sanusi was escorted past midnight into the palace by the governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, the deputy governor and the speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly.

Sources said the governor and his officials made the decision to escort Sanusi to the palace after getting wind of plans by the dethroned emir to go back into the palace, using the 48 hours given to him and other deposed monarchs to vacate their official residences.

“The initial plan was that Sanusi will wait until after the expiration of the 48 hours given by the governor to allow the dethroned emir to move his family and property out of the palace.

“But they had to move in quickly to stop the dethroned emir from accessing the palace. That was why the deputy governor and other government officials passed the night at the palace,” the source, who does not want to be named, told Dateline Nigeria on phone.
