In a decisive enforcement action reflecting the strategic leadership of the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Prof. Abubakar Ahmed Audi, mni, the South South Mining Marshals have sealed an illegal mining and processing site in Igara Local Government Area of Edo State.
The operation was led by DSC Emmanuel Abiahu, Team Lead of the South South Mining Marshals, following intelligence-driven investigations that uncovered an unlawful processing and purchasing hub operating in violation of its mining licences.
Findings revealed that the operators were conducting activities outside the provisions of the Mining Act, 2007, particularly contravening Section 48 of the Nigerian Minerals and Mining Regulations, 2011.
This enforcement action sends a strong and unmistakable message to illegal operators that the era of unregulated mining and economic sabotage in the South South is drawing to a close.
The NSCDC reaffirms its unwavering commitment to safeguarding critical national assets and ensuring that the nation’s mineral resources are protected from criminal exploitation.
