OIC welcomes UN resolutions on the question of Palestine

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) welcomed the vote of the United Nations General Assembly by majority on 5 pivotal resolutions, 4 of which relate to Palestine, and the fifth on the occupied Syrian Golan.

These resolutions are on the mandate and work of the “Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People”, the “Division for Palestinian Rights” of the United Nations General Secretariat, and the “Special information programme on the question of Palestine” which condemned the killing of Palestinian journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, and the basic principles of a “Peaceful settlement of the question of Palestine”.

One of these resolutions requests the United Nations to commemorate the seventy-fifth anniversary of the Palestinian Nakba.

The OIC commended the positions of the countries that contributed to sponsoring and supporting these resolutions, in confirmation of their commitment to international law and in line with their historical positions based on the principles of right, justice and peace.

The OIC renewed its call on the international community to “redouble its efforts to implement the United Nations resolutions on the Palestinian Cause and the occupied Arab territories and to enable the Palestinian people to exercise their legitimate right to establish their independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital”.
