- Company to introduce Citroën, Fiat, and Leapmotor by 2027
Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has announced plans to increase the state’s equity stake in Dangote Peugeot Automobile Nigeria Limited (DPANL).
This followed a progress update from the DPANL Managing Director Ibrahim Issa Gachi, who lead top management team on a visit to the governor at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim House Kaduna on Wednesday.
While receiving the team, Governor Uba Sani said “We shall be increasing our equity stake in the company, further affirming our confidence in its future.”
He noted that “As of today, we are holding about 11.7% equity in Dangote Peugeot Automobiles Nigeria Limited and that is the reason why as a government, we will do everything to ensure the success of this very important initiative.
“As the host community, our people are benefiting tremendously in terms of job opportunities. There are about 1,000 people working there and there are several others benefiting from indirect jobs.”
He commended the company’s ongoing efforts in assembling new vehicle models, soon to be introduced into the Nigerian market, which will deepen deepen local manufacturing capacity and reduce dependence on imports.
Sani said Kaduna State’s ranking as second in Ease of Doing Business nationwide, and first in Northern Nigeria, reflects his administration’s sustained reforms anchored on transparency and efficiency.
He also disclosed that the state is making significant investments in transport infrastructure, including the construction of what he described as the largest ultramodern bus terminal in the country.
“We already have two other bus terminals; one has been completed and the second one is at about 95% completion. In the next two months, we will invite you for the ground breaking of our Bus Rapid Transit(BRT), which will be the second outside Lagos,” he said.
Sani also said Kaduna has attracted about $3.5 billion in local and foreign investments, with $743 million already actualised and $2.76 billion in the pipeline.
Meanwhile, the MD of DPAN, urged the state government to prioritise the use of locally assembled vehicles in its official fleet and public service operations. He also called on the governor to advocate the adoption of DPAN vehicles across other states and support collaborations on mass transit initiatives.
Gachi said the company plans to expand its footprint in Nigeria by introducing additional brands, including Citroën, Fiat, and Leapmotor by 2027.
“This expanded portfolio will cover a broad spectrum of mobility solutions, ranging from saloon cars and SUVs to mass transit buses for both intercity and intracity operations, as well as micromobility options,” he said.
“The lineup will feature diverse powertrain technologies, including petrol, diesel, and CNG-powered internal combustion engines, alongside fully electric vehicles.
“In addition, we intend to introduce Range-Extended Electric Vehicles (REEVs), an advanced category of electric vehicles primarily driven by an electric motor, complemented by a small internal combustion engine that functions solely as a generator to recharge the battery when required.”
The DPAN boss also invited the governor to unveil the 2026 Peugeot models at the company’s facility within the next four weeks.
