Yobe to establish LG emergency management committees

Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni said the state government would establish Local Government Emergency Management Committees (LGEMC) for early response to disaster.

The governor stated this Monday when he paid a working visit to NEMA Headquarters, his spokesman Mamman Mohammed said in a statement.

He saif the LGEMCs are to provide first support to victims of disaster at the grassroots before support comes from the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).

He noted that the local Committees would be adequately equipped to function efficiently.

“These Committees would serve as first aid to victims of disaster across the state” he said.

Mustapha Habib Ahmed, Director General of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), commended Yobe state government for the initiative.

He said the initiative will provide fast and efficient support to disaster victims.

“Yobe state has been a leading role model in disaster management providing efficient support to victims” the DG stated.

The Director General decorated Governor Buni as NEMA Ambassador on Disaster Management.

Governor Buni was accompanied to NEMA by the Hon. commissioner for finance Alh. Mustapha Musa, the Chief of Staff to the Governor Alh. Abdullahi Yusuf and Chairman Potiskum Local Government Council Alh. Salisu Mukhtari.
