How Tudun Biri village was reconstructed — Gov Sani

Gov. Uba Sani of Kaduna State has commended President Bola Tinubu for selecting Tudun Biri village as the first beneficiary of the Federal Government’s Resettlement Scheme for Persons Impacted by Conflicts.

Sani made the commendation on Friday at the inauguration of houses, a six kilometre road, a Primary Healthcare Centre and a Skills Acquisition Centre in Tudun Biri.

He said the community was selected following the accidental bombing in December 2023, which claimed several innocent lives.

According to the Governor, the President’s directive led to the adoption of an integrated development model that goes beyond temporary relief.

“The scheme has shown that peace is sustained not only through security measures, but through development, inclusion and economic opportunity,” he said.

Sani said that the initiative focused on comprehensive reconstruction, providing modern homes alongside essential social infrastructure to ensure safe and sustainable living.

He said the Kaduna State Government played a central role in the reconstruction process, from the immediate aftermath of the tragedy to the commissioning of completed projects.

According to him, portions of farmland were utilised for residential development and community infrastructure to guarantee orderly housing, roads and public facilities.

He added that affected farmers were consulted and supported through livelihood interventions, including access to agricultural inputs, empowerment and skills programmes, as well as alternative livelihood support where necessary.

The governor said the state coordinated emergency medical care, psychosocial support and relief distribution in collaboration with community leaders.

“As recovery progressed, our focus expanded to healthcare, education, livelihoods and infrastructure, guided by our policy that Kaduna State will not tolerate the creation of IDP camps,” he said.

Sani explained that his administration prioritised resettlement within communities to preserve social bonds and restore economic activities.

He disclosed that a 25-bed Primary Healthcare Centre equipped to offer maternal care, minor surgeries and ophthalmological services had been constructed in the community.

He also said a six-kilometre asphaltic road linking Tudun Biri to the Kaduna International Airport corridor was completed to improve access and economic integration.

According to the governor, the affected residents were prioritised in social intervention programmes, with the distribution of fertiliser, rice and maize, as well as continued psychosocial and medical support through the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency.

Sani said a Skills Acquisition Centre was established to provide vocational and entrepreneurial training for youths, while a new primary school was constructed with the support of the Nigerian Army and development partners.

The governor commended Vice-President Kashim Shettima for his leadership and oversight, describing his role as instrumental to the success of the project.

“As Chairman of the committee that guided the implementation plan, he ensured that commitments were translated into measurable outcomes,” he said.

Sani also expressed appreciation to the Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mrs Zubaida Umar, for ensuring effective coordination and transparent use of resources.

In his remarks,  Shettima said the inauguration of the Tudun Biri resettlement scheme reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to fairness and compassion.

He described the project as a source of hope and reassurance that the Nigerian state would not abandon citizens affected by adversity.

According to him, the rehabilitation scheme is a Federal Government initiative aimed at delivering durable recovery and resettlement.

He said similar projects were ongoing in Kaduna, Kebbi, Sokoto, Zamfara, Niger, Katsina and Benue.

Shettima added that the projects reflected a coordinated national response to internal displacement, focusing on community resilience and the restoration of dignity.

The vice-president commended the Kaduna State Government for its inclusive approach and constructive partnership, saying that collaboration among stakeholders was key to the success of such initiatives.(NAN)
