Anambra police, vigilante rescue kidnap victim, arrest three, recover ransom

A police-led joint security operation in Anambra State has led to the rescue of a kidnapped victim and the arrest of three suspected kidnappers in Nnobi, Idemili South Local Government Area.

The operation was carried out on the evening of April 18, 2026, by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad Awkuzu in collaboration with the Agunechemba Vigilante Group, Nnobi.

Acting on credible intelligence, the team stormed a bush at Umuezeala Awuda Village, where the suspects were holding their victim captive.

Three men were arrested at the scene: Chidalu Obi, 25; Chichebem Ojenigbo, 26; and Chikannechukwu Eze, 20. The team also recovered a locally made Beretta pistol and ₦469,000 in cash believed to be ransom paid by the victim’s family.

According to preliminary investigations, the suspects lured the victim — an electrician — under the guise of offering him a job. On arrival at the agreed location, he was blindfolded at gunpoint and taken into the bush, where he was held until the ransom was paid.

The suspects have confessed to the crime and admitted that the ₦469,000 ransom was transferred into a SportyBet account belonging to Chidalu Obi.

The Anambra State Police Command said the operation reflects its ongoing commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.

Police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to aid security efforts.

The suspects are expected to face prosecution as investigations continue.
