Aisha Buhari supports death penalty for Hanifa’s killer

First Lady Aisha Buhari has thrown her weight behind calls for the application of the death penalty on the Kano school proprietor Abdulmalik Mohammed Tanko who abducted and killed Hanifa Abubakar, a 5-year-old pupil of his school.

In a post on her verified nstagram page, the first lady uploaded a video in which a Kano based cleric Sheikh Abdullahi Usman Gadon Kaya called for the public execution of the killer.

“His (the killer’s) life is not more important than hers (Hanifa’s). He must therefore be deprived of his life the same way he deprived Hanifa of hers. And it should be done publicly for all to see, so that another person will not do the same tomorrow,” Gadon Kaya said in the video.

Commenting under the post, Aisha Buhari said in Hausa “Muna goyon bayan hukunchin Malam, i.e. we are in support of Malam’s verdict”

The first lady also hash-tagged the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Attorney General of the Federation (AFG).

Dateline Nigeria reports that the killing of Hanifa was widely condemned, with many Nigerians promoting a hashtag demanding justice for the slain 5-year-old girl.
