Anambra police arrest Bishop’s driver over murder, attempt to sell stolen jeep

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a domestic staff member for the alleged murder of his employer, a Pentecostal bishop, and the attempt to sell the victim’s Toyota Prado Jeep in Nkpor.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, announced the breakthrough on Tuesday, May 13, 2026, following an intelligence-led operation by the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu.

The suspect, who worked as the bishop’s driver and domestic staff, is accused of conspiring with unidentified accomplices to kill the cleric — the Pentecostal Bishop of End-reconciliation Ministry in Asaba, Delta State — before fleeing with the victim’s Prado Jeep to Anambra with the intent to sell it.

Police operatives tracked and intercepted the suspect and another individual alleged to be the buyer of the stolen vehicle in Nkpor, Idemili North Local Government Area. The stolen jeep was recovered, and both suspects are now in custody for further interrogation.

Investigations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the criminal gang and establish the full circumstances surrounding the bishop’s death, the Command said.

CP Orutugu urged residents to exercise caution when hiring domestic staff and drivers, stressing the need to properly profile and verify their identities while remaining alert to suspicious behavior. He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to proactive and intelligence-driven policing in collaboration with other security agencies to safeguard lives and property in the state.

The statement was signed by SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Police Command.
