Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir David Lawal, has hit out at former Vice President Atiku Abubakar again, questioning his stance on insecurity and his fitness for the presidency.
In a lengthy post on his verified Facebook page titled “Kachalla 2,” the former SGF said he has a right to interrogate Atiku’s presidential ambition.
Dateline Nigeria reports that the former SGF, in an earlier post, said the African Democratic Congress (ADC) primaries that declared Atiku as the winner was rigged and announced his resignation from the party. Both the ADC and the former vice president have since dismissed Babachir’s allegations.
However, in his latest post, Babachir Lawal responded to what he described as “vile propaganda, insults and threats” from Atiku’s supporters after he allegedly pointed out “the danger an Atiku presidency will pose to the country.”
He argued that if his comments are being interpreted as an insult to the entire Fulani race, then it validates his concern that an Atiku presidency would be viewed as a “Fulani presidency” in the same way he claimed Bola Tinubu’s presidency is seen as a “Yoruba presidency.”
Lawal accused Atiku’s “social media bandits” of lacking “common sense and reasoning”.
The former SGF also challenged Atiku’s reputation as a businessman and educationist, claiming that businesses including Gotel Communications, Adama Beverages, Rico Gado Nutrition Company, and his marine logistics company are “in distress, leased out or he has divested from them,” and that Atiku’s university is “sustained by a ‘once-upon-a-time’ glory given its now rotting infrastructure and dwindling faculty.”
Lawal said it is his right to “interrogate the character and competence of someone who seeks to be my President” and urged the African Democratic Congress, ADC, to “replace this man with a more qualified candidate” if it hopes to win the presidential election.
He said he had also sent a similar message to Atiku on WhatsApp on Dec. 19, 2025, vowing not to “lie low and allow his goons to lynch me be it physically or on the social media.”
Atiku or his spokespersons have not issued a response to the allegations as of press time.
