- Agency uncovers N5.8bn Cannabis stash in Lekki
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested three persons with disabilities (PWDs) in separate drug trafficking operations across Anambra and Kwara states, while also uncovering a N5.8 billion cannabis stash house in Lekki, Lagos.
In Anambra, a 60-year-old PWD, Romanus Nwabara, was arrested on May 6 in Akpaka Forest, Onitsha, with 250 grams of skunk concealed in retail sachets.
A day later, operatives in Ogbunike apprehended another PWD, 25-year-old Amos Kenneth, with 160.3 grams of Tramadol 225mg and 100mg, 80 Diazepam tablets, 38.23 grams of Exol 5, and 176.93 grams of skunk.
In Kwara, a third PWD, Usman Salisu, was intercepted on May 8 along the Bode Saadu road with 6.3 kilograms of skunk hidden in a brown school bag during a routine patrol.
In a major bust, NDLEA’s Special Operations Unit raided a Lekki Phase 1 mansion on May 8 where 4,000 parcels of Loud — a high-grade imported cannabis strain weighing 2,326 kilograms and valued at over ₦5.8 billion — were recovered.
Two Mercedes-Benz buses and designer packaging materials for retail distribution were also seized from the property at 36 African Lane.
Elsewhere, operatives arrested Emmanuel Osita Okeke, 38, with 129kg of skunk at Nyanya Karu, Nasarawa State, on May 4.
On May 8, a team along the Okene/Lokoja highway in Kogi State stopped a white J5 bus heading to Abuja and recovered 76 jumbo bags of skunk weighing 766kg, leading to the arrest of three suspects: Mathew Omohove, Ebuka Desmond, and Babangida Musa.
In Lagos, two suspects, Bose Jamiu and Gbenga Gege, were arrested on May 6 at a makeshift skuchies production factory in Ijora Badia. They were caught mixing cannabis with other illicit substances, with 270 litres of skuchies and 106 grams of Tramadol 225mg recovered.
The agency said its commands also sustained sensitization activities under its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign across schools, religious centres, and communities in Nasarawa, Ekiti, Enugu, Abia, Lagos, Akwa Ibom, Kano, and Oyo states.
Commending the officers, NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) urged them to maintain the current momentum in both drug supply reduction and public awareness efforts.
