The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays to mark the Eid ul Adha celebration.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo. According to the ministry, the move recognizes the faith and spiritual heritage of millions of Nigerian Muslims joining the global Islamic community for the occasion.
In a statement signed by Permanent Secretary Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the government extended felicitations to Muslim faithful in Nigeria and the diaspora.
Eid ul Adha, the statement said, is a festival of “deep spiritual significance, grounded in the values of sacrifice, obedience to God, and compassion for one’s fellow man.”
The government urged Nigerians to use the period for prayer and reflection, seeking divine guidance for the country as it pursues peace, security, and prosperity.
“In the spirit of brotherhood, shared humanity, and national unity, the Federal Government wishes all Muslims a peaceful, blessed, and joyous celebration,” the statement read.
